I recently saw a trend of sharing "tiny joys" on this platform and wanted to join in to share mine.
We're all so caught up in the hustle and bustle that we forget to pause and appreciate the simple joys. Our to-do lists seem endless, and we're always striving for perfection. Even those who aspire to a slower pace, whether in the tranquility of the countryside or the quietude of suburbia, often succumb to the pressure to fill every moment with purpose. I think if we looked to Christ more often through those endless to-do lists, we’d be able to feel whole, feel enough, feel satisfied and appreciate being paced. He took his time creating so much beauty for us to enjoy and we get overwhelmed with daily tasks, responsibilities, celebrations, a new tv series — all the things!
As a very anxious individual, I've learned the importance of intentional pauses. When the weight of the world feels overwhelming, I retreat to the solace of a quiet walk, unburdened by the distractions of technology. Listening to the noise of the city and feeling the wind brush against my ears. Just having a moment of silence with the holy spirit walking by my side, fills my soul with a sense of peace and contentment.
I wanted to share with you some of the countless small joys that grace my days:
A bright sunny day
A great church service
Autumn foliage
A loose comfy outfit
A damp cotton swab to the ear
A hand or foot massage
A fresh hairdo
New manicure and pedicure
An empty schedule for the day
No laundry to fold
A clean sink
Frozen cotton candy grapes
An ice-cold bowl of my favorite cereal (Cinnamon Toast Crunch)
A clean new cafe/coffee shop to study or work in
A cup of French hot chocolate
A soft heavy blanket on a cold day
Pristinely clean floors
A warm smile from a stranger
Birds chirping on a Saturday morning
Hearing a song, I was once captivated by
Hearing I love you/I miss you from someone I care a lot about
Wearing silver jewelry
Comfortable walking shoes (I love walking)
Hearing the bass in a song
Good hearty laughs with friends
